Human Rights and Citizens Empowerment Program (HRCEP)
Civil societies play an important role in promoting democracy and human rights. By building relationships between people, they create a platform for constructive dialogue. This helps to shape public opinion and keep citizens informed about current events. In addition, civil societies work to lobby policymakers, campaign for change, and provide services to citizens. Their efforts play a vital role in building the institution of democracy and keeping the institution strong. They help build a robust public sphere, which is essential for promoting human rights and protecting the rights of individuals. By strengthening civil organizations, promotion of human rights and citizens’ empowerment are essential for development because it allows for progress and change without oppression from any group or individual. They also feature a system of checks and balances, which ensures that no one group or individual can overpower the rest. Furthermore, human right protection allows for progress and change in an organized way so that all citizens can share in the fruits of success. Citizens’ empowerments also promote social inclusion by allowing all citizens to participate in civic life and public affairs. In this regard, RCWDO’s key interventions areas consist of Children Empowerment and Protection (CEP), Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE), Empowering Youth for Employment (EYfE), and Empowerment of Older Persons & Persons with Disabilities (EOPwD).
Good Governance, Democracy and Peacebuilding Program (GGDPP)
Civil societies play a vital role in promoting democracy and good governance. Promotion of human rights and citizens’ empowerment are essential for development because it allows for progress and change without oppression from any group or individual. They provide a space for people to air their grievances, have a voice, and raise awareness about the importance of democratic values. RCWDO believe that good governance has opened up new paths to democracy and emphasises the importance of representativeness, transparency, increased participation, accountability, equity, and inclusion although the role as CSOs depends mostly on the political economy context of the country. In this context CSOs interventions/ actions serve as a channel through which citizens participate in making and implementing public decisions; in identifying, prioritising and resolving public problems, and in allocating and managing public resources which are important factors for preventing conflict and ensuring peace & stability. The program aimed at building inclusive societies and sustaining peace through good governance and conflict prevention and enforcing the democratic culture to nurture it. In addition to monitoring government policies and operational actions, they also work to create awareness about the principles of democracy, governance, peace building and their significance in society in general. As long as the process of democratization and good governance remains strong, societies can be held accountable for their actions and pursue policies that benefit all residents as well as ensure peace and security. They are crucial for development as it ensures that everyone has the opportunity to participate in decision-making and have their voices heard. In order to contribute for effective governance, democratization and peace building in the community, RCWDO undertakes the key intervention actions that include Promotion of Inclusive Social Accountability Program (PISAP), Promoting Democratization (PD), and Conflict Prevention and Peacebuilding (CPP).
