About RCWDO
Who We Are
Increased people’s capabilities and their institutions for sustained development
Rift Valley Children and Women Development Organization (RCWDO) is a Local non-governmental, non-for-profit oriented and secular development and humanitarian organization established in 1993 and re-registered as Local Ethiopian CSO in accordance with the Authority for Civil Society Organizations Proclamation 1113/2019 of Ethiopia. RCWDO mainly dealing with the promotion of the welfare and development of the most disadvantaged & vulnerable groups of the society mainly: children, women, youth, the elderly, and people with disability who are subjected to severe poverty and all forms of the problems of underdevelopment. RCWDO was founded in 1993 by dedicated, philanthropic and voluntary Ethiopians residing in the Central Rift Valley area dedicated to addressing the critical causes of poverty in the rift valley areas as well as other parts of the country through assisting the efforts of the communities and affected people in strengthening humanitarian efforts. RCWDO’s initial establishment is based on the foundation of Central Rift valley Arsi People movement against feudalism through promotion of basic education. It has emerged as an offspring of this movement to address the underdevelopment & ignorance of people. The rational for creating linkage and founding this charitable organization with same and shared value is the fact that the founders were active member of the former movement and had benefited from the movement in fulfillment of their rights as citizen. Accordingly, RCWDO has two major/ fundamental believes of its existence that emanate from its foundation. These are: people are the foundation of the development and people have the potential thus build on their potential and strengths.

People are the foundation of the development
The development status and potential of the society in the world is nothing but the function of the development of its people socially, economically and politically. RCWDO believes that people are the foundation of the world and however more than 75% of the world people and even more in developing nations particularly are economically poor, socially marginalized and politically powerless. This leads to the fact that the world is established on weak foundation and the current situation could not ensure sustained development. Hence, developmental intervention should focus on the marginalized and weak sector of the society to ensure the establishment of enjoyable and better world in the future.
People have the potential thus build on their potential and strengths
In any society people have their own potential to deal with the challenges and problems. They have their own indigenous coping mechanism to react/respond to and manage changes and problems.
They are not living in a vacuum. It is unrealistic to consider that they demand remedy from outside for any problem. Thus, development intervention will be effective if it focuses on the real and felt needs, built on taking in to consideration the current internal and external condition of the community.
This will ensure sustainability and facilitate effective social movement through collective action.
